Meet Morgen Tanksley
She grew up in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. Was valedictorian of her high school class. She’s also a problem solver. A talented one, we might add. She received her BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design or SCAD, as it’s often called. Her major was illustration. And her minor? You guessed it—advertising!
A high school art class and a visit from SCAD her junior year set her on her career path. She had her first job internship at 16, designing logos for a marketing firm. When she enrolled at SCAD’s Atlanta campus, Morgen knew she liked illustration but couldn’t decide on her minor until she attended a SCAD Senior Showcase and saw the advertising portfolios. “It was super fun,” she says.” I knew I’d found my profession!”
Morgen not only immersed herself in her studies, she also secured a second internship her sophomore year with Consulate Health Care’s Creative Services in Atlanta. She designed print and digital marketing materials and was assistant manager of the in-house print shop. Never let it be said Morgen is one to rest on her laurels.
Her junior year she studied abroad in France in a very unique setting. There lies a small medieval town enclosed by a wall that dates back to the 14th century. Behind the wall rests the family home of the Marquis de Sade, a rather unusual, yet inspiring location to take a semester of illustration and advertising courses.
Following graduation, Morgen landed her first job in Atlanta with Peace, Love & Decorating, where she was creative director. She was responsible for brand management and development, hiring, managing, and training creative and web development teams and much more.
She often looks back on her early life in the foothills and town tucked away in the North Georgia Mountains, where there was one public high school. And you couldn’t go to the grocery store without running into your neighbors. She loved the mountains, the creeks, the deer paths, and camping with the family in summers. This is the place where Morgen built her character.
Since then, she’s assembled and led creative teams. Worked on brands both large and small—Porsche, Christopher Radko, and Atlanta Food Bank, to name a few. Has experience with industries from A to Z and won numerous awards for her illustration and design work. Following an email, a phone call, and a look at her portfolio, Brian May was convinced Morgen should be a part of our creative team.
