😎 Summer Bangers– A Bullpen Roundup

 Lindsey Lowe

Sun’s blazin. Humidity’s risin. Pool parties are a thing of the present. So, grab a popsicle and your airpods, and check out some of our team’s favorite summery bangers for a lil mood boost. Gotta get that vitamin D and serotonin where you can, besties!

Lindsey’s pick: Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter ☕

She’s working late, “cause she’s a singerrr.” The definition of an earworm, this song is catchy as all hell and super fun too. 10/10 could save you from Vecna. Catch us spinning it on repeat all season long in the office, the car, the kitchen…anywhere tunes may be heard. (Don’t act like you don’t love it. There’s no such thing as a guilty pleasure.)

Amelia’s pick: This Must Be the Place by Sure Sure 🌴

Who doesn’t love a well-executed cover? Sure Sure’s adaptation of the classic Talking Heads favorite, This Must Be the Place, slides into first for Amelia’s favorite summer sing-a-long hit. Why? Because it just slaps. That’s why! (Her words exactly.) Also, this song is clearly describing the swimming pool, cause it MUST be the place. All summer long.

Ian’s pick: Depths (Pt.I) by Yumi Zouma ⬇

Prereq numero uno: can you dance to it? YES! Though Ian feels his musical cycles aren’t majorly influenced by the season, he’s been putting together a playlist for his daughter called “Tilly’s Hot Summer Jams 2024™.” He said she loves to move and groove to this particular song, and even asks for it to be played when they’re hanging out.

Rad’s pick: Casual Party by Band of Horses 🎉

Who doesn’t love this band? They give instant, heartfelt nostalgia for a lot of us. Rad’s summer pick, by Band of Horses, features a playful bassline/drums combo that has the same vibe as a casual backyard summer hang. A driving melody and loveable Ben Bridwell vocals make this a perfect addition to your summer playlist.

Daniel’s pick: Goonies Never Say Die! by Set Your Goals 🏴‍☠️

Daniel says this 2006 hardcore song was the anthem for all of his high school summers. It reminds him of the old days– without a care in the world– when his band played shows wherever they could find an opportunity. He says there’s nothing like being covered in that post-show sweat, riding around in the cars with the windows down and blasting your favorite songs. Give this one a go, car windows all the way down, summer wind in your hair.

Beau’s pick: It’s a Great Day to Be Alive by Travis Tritt 🌅

Picture this. It’s a beautiful summer night. You’re outside, hanging with friends, having some beers. You close your eyes in the hammock, this song blaring– everything’s right in the world. Beau also loves blastin’ this song from the golf cart as he slices another golf ball in the woods. He said it’s a hard feeling to beat on those long summer days! P.S.– Catch Travis live at Brushy Saturday, July 27th!

Mary’s pick: Feather by Sabrina Carpenter 🪶

What!? Sabrina’s having a moment, okay? In addition to Espresso, Mary loves Feather, another banger by Sabrina Carpenter. And if you needed a sign to dump him, honey, this is it. Independent woman summer 2024. Add Feather to your summer playlist, your break-up playlist, or better yet– both. It’s giving I’m-single-this-season in the best way and we’ll be playing it often.

Grant’s pick: Amie by Pure Prairie League ✨

For Grant, nothing says "summer" quite like the winddown after a long, hot day. You’re grilling burgers, and kicking back on the porch with your friends without a care in the world. The sun sets, the day cools down, and the stars come out. “Amie, what you want to do?” blares over the speakers. What could be sweeter?

Monty’s pick: Kokomo by the Beach Boys 🌊

If vacation had a sound, it might sound like Kokomo by the Beach Boys. That’s Monty’s top summer tune. Beyond the harmony and the melody, he said he loves the inspiration behind the popular ballad. Though Monty has dreamt of living on an island like the ones the song mentions– an ideal place to reminisce, create, and write– another summertime paradise has won his heart over time. The shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix almost to the tip of the mitt, or what he calls “God’s country.” You might find him there crooning along with the beloved Beach Boys.

Amelia’s second pick: Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus 🇺🇸

When the DJ plays your favorite tune and the Miley song is on! Amelia’s second summertime ripper is Party in the U.S.A. This one is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor at any wedding and has a 100% chance of making everyone in the car sing along regardless of their musical tastes. Party in the U.S.A. is a song that unites people, and we think that’s a thing to be celebrated.

No matter what your summer soundtrack consists of, we hope you’re enjoying this sizzlin’ season. Preferably poolside.
